Tom Cruise is in conflict with production company Paramount over the period of screening the movie Mission Impossible 7.
According to Hollywood Reporter, a U.S. movie media outlet, Paramount plans to screen the latest film in the series, Mission Impossible 7, at the theater for only 35 days. Instead, in order to strengthen the competitiveness of streaming platforms, it will be released exclusively through Paramount Plus, an online video service (OTT), immediately after the theater screening.
However, Tom Cruise says he can't accept it is unacceptable.
Tom Cruise even hired a lawyer, asking the production company to screen Mission Impossible for 90 days.
The two sides are expected to negotiate after the production of the movie is completed.
Earlier, Paramount announced on July 14, 2023, after several delays in the release date of Mission Impossible 7.
The release of Mission Impossible 8 was also changed to June 28, 2024, rather than July 7, 2023, which was previously announced.
Due to the continued variables, the production cost of Mission Impossible 7 totaled $290 million (about 347.1 billion won), tens of millions of dollars more than the original budget.
Considering Cruise's star power and his influence on the 'Mission Impossible' series, Cruise will eventually get what he wants, the movie media Screenland reported.
The seventh "Mission Impossible" has been delayed several times in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and will be released in July next year.
